Online Revolution: The Role of Social Media in Your Job Search
There are tons of online avenues we can take these days when searching for a job. Some people are more aware than others about the power of the internet. Not only are we using career search engines like Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, or the like…people are now turning to Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and Linkedin for new ways to network with prospective employers.
Studies have suggested that 80% of jobs are gotten through networking. The question is…How will you do your networking?
Here is a list of some of the top social media sites for finding a job…Use them wisely to market yourself and your brand. Please comment and let us know if any of these have worked for you, or if you would like to add some to the list.
35 million users strong and counting, Linkedin provides the ultimate social networking experience. I have found it to be the most useful of the networking sites in terms of finding jobs and connecting with recruiters for future positions. I get updates from recruiters and others in my field about job openings and best career practices. This is DEFINITELY one that I recommend!
Learning to use Twitter to your advantage is how you will connect with prospective employers. Yes, some use this network for fun, but others are taking it more seriously and following the company they want to work for to be informed of job openings.
Many are not aware of this powerful tool, but here you can connect with employers through your profile and also view job openings across the country.
The Marketplace is a great way to find out if a company has an opening somewhere. If you want, searching for a company name or employee name can work as well.
May be a new one to you, but the site is a professional networking Mecca. Ecademy allows users to have an online profile as well. While there is not a specific job search engine, the opportunity for networking is fabulous.
Are there any other sites you have found that provides a great avenue for networking and finding jobs?? Your input can help someone find their dream job!
